Hello fellow educators and welcome to my webpage. My name is Lisa Nanny and I live and teach in Texas. The purpose of my e-portfolio is to share my work both as an educator and that of a student. After teaching several years I decided to get a Masters of Science in Inclusion Education. In doing so I learned a great deal about my personal educational philosophies regarding students with disabilities as well as with ELL students. Interestingly though some of the same markers typically found in ELL learners are evident in low socioeconomic populations. Often likely due to a lack of resources in the home and parents working several jobs there leaves little money and time for learning at home. It is not that the parents love their children any less rather the need to ensure the bare essential exist are often paramount. So my priorities as an educator will undoubtedly be very different than many of the households from which my students come.
After teaching third grade students in a Dual Language program and preparing them for their first experience with state assessments gave me an opportunity for growth. At that time TAKS, Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, was administered in the spring. Third grade assesses the subjects of reading and math. I am proud to say in my first year we completed with 100% passing in Reading and 98% passing in Math with 50% of those reaching Commended status. Way to go Sam Houston Third Graders!!!!! I am so very proud of their hard work and effort.
In the fall of 2013 I found another opportunity to grow as a teacher. Moving to a new district with a rural population I was met with different challenges. The area has a very transient student body. This would often mean a student was in and out in the same year, depart a few weeks after arrival or new ones arriving late, late in the year. These conditions just meant my time with them had to be more than my BEST at all times because I did not know how long I would have them.
This e-portfolio is an ever evolving and always changing as I continue to grow as an educator and learn new experiences. As I learn, participate in and apply these educational beliefs, the contents will be added to or modified.
